Dr Lee Heow Yong

Dr Lee Heow Yong, is currently the Director, Hospital Services Division, of the Ministry of Health, Singapore. His work includes the development and coordination of services for the acute, specialist and community hospitals, and implementation of new clinical services. For 2020, the focus has been related to response to COVID-19 and include national review of COVID-19 impacted clinical services such as ICU services, renal services, stroke services, etc. Oversee the deployment of contingency hospital capacity including NCID, ICUs, isolation capacities. Other work areas include the development of new acute and community hospitals, review of policies related to key clinical services such as organ transplant services, community hospital services, etc, as well as development of new services such as precision medicine, cell therapy, etc.
Previously, Dr Lee worked at the Health Promotion Board, Singapore, where he set up the National Myopia Prevention Programme. He also worked at the Singapore General Hospital’s Occupational Health and Epidemiology Unit where he was involved with disease outbreak surveillance and epidemiological investigations of healthcare associated infections. At the Ministry of Health, he was involved with patient safety, infection control and clinical quality frameworks, national standards for healthcare, and work related to transformation of care models.
Dr Lee graduated from the National University of Singapore School of Medicine in 1991. He completed his Master of Medicine (Public Health) at the National University of Singapore in 2004 and Master of Arts (Applied Psychology) (Counselling Psychology) at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University in 2002.
